Brown Advisory Novices' Chase trends
Three miles for novice chasers, and the closest thing the meeting has to a Gold Cup trial. It asks for stamina and jumping under pressure, and the horses who win it well tend to be heard from again.
The market has been a poor guide here. Only two of the last five winners went off favourite, and the 2025 and 2026 runnings went to Lecky Watson at 20/1 and Kitzbuhel at 11/1. Fact To File was the exception at 8/13 in 2024, and he later won the Ryanair Chase.
Willie Mullins has taken the last three on file, which reflects the depth of staying novices he has had rather than anything peculiar to the race. L'Homme Presse's 2022 win for Venetia Williams is the reminder that a British-trained stayer can still win it.
Brown Advisory Novices' Chase winners on file: Kitzbuhel, Lecky Watson, Fact To File, The Real Whacker, L'Homme Presse. The market has been a poor guide here, with only 1 of the last 5 winners going off favourite. The biggest-priced winner in that time was Lecky Watson at 20/1 in 2025.
