Cross Country Chase trends
A race apart from the rest of the Festival, run over banks, hedges and drops on the cross country course, where specialist experience counts for more than raw class. Delta Work won it twice for Gordon Elliott, and Gavin Cromwell has taken the last two on file.
Keith Donoghue's name keeps appearing in the results, which is no accident. Riders who know the course hold a genuine advantage here. The race became a handicap again in 2025, so older form should be read with that change in mind.
There is no 2024 result because the race was abandoned that year on waterlogged ground, which denied Delta Work the chance of a third win in it.
Cross Country Chase winners on file: Final Orders, Stumptown, Delta Work. Favourite backers have had the better of it, with 3 of the last 4 winners going off market leader. The biggest-priced winner in that time was Final Orders at 7/1 in 2026.
The race has run under several sponsored names, including Cross Country Chase and Cross Country Handicap Chase. They are all the same contest, so the full history sits on this page.
Festival form
1 of the 4 winners on file had already won at the Cheltenham Festival before taking this race.
- Delta Work (2023) had won the 2022 Cross Country Chase.
Winners without an earlier win listed here had not won at the Festival since 2022, which is as far back as this archive currently runs.
See the full card for each Festival on the results by year pages, or the Ladies Day page for how the rest of the day went.
