Jack Richards Novices' Handicap Chase trends
A novices' handicap chase introduced in 2025 in place of the old two and a half mile novice chase, and still building a form profile. Caldwell Potter won the first running at 7/1 for Paul Nicholls and Meetmebythesea the second at 9/1 for Ben Pauling.
Two runnings is too little to call a trend, though a handicap for novice chasers is the sort of race that traditionally favours the improver over the proven performer. It is worth treating older form for this slot on the card with care, since the conditions changed completely.
Jack Richards Novices' Handicap Chase winners on file: Meetmebythesea, Caldwell Potter. The market has been a poor guide here, with only 0 of the last 2 winners going off favourite. The biggest-priced winner in that time was Meetmebythesea at 9/1 in 2026.
The race has run under several sponsored names, including Jack Richards Novices' Handicap Chase and Jack Richards Novices' Chase. They are all the same contest, so the full history sits on this page.
