Ryanair Chase trends
Two miles and five furlongs is an awkward trip, too far for the Champion Chase horses and short of the Gold Cup, and the Ryanair has built a reputation for turning over short prices because of it.
Jonbon's 2026 defeat was the latest example, beaten at 2/1 favourite by Heart Wood at 9/2, and in 2023 Shishkin was sent off at evens and beaten by Envoi Allen. Protektorat won at 17/2 in 2024 with Envoi Allen the beaten favourite that time.
Allaho's 4/7 win in 2022 shows the race can be won by a short one, but he was a specialist at the trip rather than a horse dropping down or stepping up. The lesson from five years of results is to back the horse the distance suits rather than the best horse in the race.
Ryanair Chase winners on file: Heart Wood, Fact To File, Protektorat, Envoi Allen, Allaho. The market has been a poor guide here, with only 2 of the last 5 winners going off favourite. The biggest-priced winner in that time was Protektorat at 17/2 in 2024.
Festival form
1 of the 5 winners on file had already won at the Cheltenham Festival before taking this race.
- Fact To File (2025) had won the 2024 Brown Advisory Novices' Chase.
Winners without an earlier win listed here had not won at the Festival since 2022, which is as far back as this archive currently runs.
See the full card for each Festival on the results by year pages, or the St Patrick's Thursday page for how the rest of the day went.
