Martin Pipe Handicap Hurdle trends
A conditional jockeys' handicap hurdle that closes the Festival, and a race with a better class of winner than its slot suggests. Banbridge won it at 12/1 in 2022 and became a top-class chaser, while Wodhooh followed her 2025 win by taking the 2026 Mares' Hurdle.
Unlike most handicaps at the meeting, the market has been reasonably accurate. No winner in the last five years returned bigger than 12/1, and the range has sat between 9/2 and 12/1. Gordon Elliott won it twice in a row with Better Days Ahead and Wodhooh.
For punters it is the last race of the week, which is precisely when discipline tends to fail. The evidence says the answer is usually near the front of the market.
Martin Pipe Handicap Hurdle winners on file: Air Of Entitlement, Wodhooh, Better Days Ahead, Iroko, Banbridge. The market has been a poor guide here, with only 0 of the last 5 winners going off favourite. The biggest-priced winner in that time was Banbridge at 12/1 in 2022.
Festival form
1 of the 5 winners on file had already won at the Cheltenham Festival before taking this race.
- Air Of Entitlement (2026) had won the 2025 Mares' Novices' Hurdle.
Winners without an earlier win listed here had not won at the Festival since 2022, which is as far back as this archive currently runs.
