Plate Handicap Chase trends
The Plate has quietly become a race where the market has caught up. The last two runnings went to 3/1 favourites, Jagwar in 2025 and Madara in 2026, after Seddon at 20/1 and Coole Cody at 22/1 in the years before.
Two and a half miles over fences in a competitive handicap should favour chaos, so the recent run of short-priced winners is worth watching rather than trusting. Note too that the race has moved around the card, running on Tuesday in 2026 and Thursday in 2025, which affects the ground it is run on.
Plate Handicap Chase winners on file: Madara, Jagwar, Shakem Up'arry, Seddon, Coole Cody. The market has been a poor guide here, with only 2 of the last 5 winners going off favourite. The biggest-priced winner in that time was Coole Cody at 22/1 in 2022.
