Arkle Chase trends
Two miles over fences for novices, and a race where jumping errors are punished immediately. Favourites have held up reasonably well, with Edwardstone, El Fabiolo and Gaelic Warrior all obliging, though the last two runnings went to 5/1 and 7/1 shots.
The 2026 running was the oddest of the five. Kargese won at 7/1 for Willie Mullins and Danny Mullins, beating both Kopek Des Bordes at 11/8 and Lulamba at 11/10, with the two market leaders taking each other on and neither seeing it out.
The race has become a useful pointer to the best staying chasers as well as the sprinters. Gaelic Warrior won it in 2024 and went on to take the 2026 Gold Cup, which is a reminder that Arkle form does not stay at two miles forever.
Arkle Chase winners on file: Kargese, Jango Baie, Gaelic Warrior, El Fabiolo, Edwardstone. Favourite backers have had the better of it, with 3 of the last 5 winners going off market leader. The biggest-priced winner in that time was Kargese at 7/1 in 2026.
Festival form
1 of the 5 winners on file had already won at the Cheltenham Festival before taking this race.
- Kargese (2026) had won the 2025 County Handicap Hurdle.
Winners without an earlier win listed here had not won at the Festival since 2022, which is as far back as this archive currently runs.
See the full card for each Festival on the results by year pages, or the Champion Day page for how the rest of the day went.
